L6 Tool Steel is a versatile, oil-hardening tool steel with low-distortion in heat treatment that is characterized by good toughness.
1.Better shock-resistance than highly alloyed steels.
2.Good combination of hardness and toughness, good toughness at lower hardness levels, good wear-resistance at high hardness levels.
3. Good safe-hardening and non-deforming properties characteristics of oil-hardening steels.
Forge: at 1050°C-1095°C Cool slowly and anneal then.
Annealing: Heating slowly and uniformly to 760~790°C, furnace cooling to 510°C at a rate 10~20°C/h. Hardness max. HB 235
Stress Relieving: Heat to 650~675°C, furnace cooling.
Hardening: Heating to 790~845°C, holding 20 minutes per 25 mm. Quenched: By oil.
Tempering: Heating to 175~540°C, holding 30 minutes per 25 mm. Air-cooling. Hardness HRC 62 to HRC 45
APPLICATIONS: L6 tool steel applications for punches and dies, cold forming tools, and coining dies.
